Tony Rice

Many things about this man impress me. Not only is does he caress the guitar with a razors edge clarity and speed, he is a talented arranger of music and an avid photographer. He shot several of his own album covers and also has a taste for fine wristwatches.

I first photographed Tony at the Granite Hill Bluegrass Jamboree in Gettysburg, PA. This shot was made in the warm-up tent, I believe everyone is tuning to ‘G'. That's Ricky Simpkins on the right with the fiddle. If you look closely, all the band members are wearing a Bulova Accutron Spaceview watch - the electric watch that has a tuning fork in it as a time reference.
